Explore the Historic Castle Town of Hikone from Kyoto

Hikone Castle is one of Japan's most well-preserved original castles, located in Shiga Prefecture, near the eastern shore of Lake Biwa. It is designated as a National Treasure and is known for its stunning architecture, historical significance, and beautiful surrounding gardens.

The Hikone Castle Museum is located within the castle grounds in what used to be the Omotegoten Palace, the former residence of the Ii family, lords of Hikone. The museum offers a deep dive into the history and culture of the Ii clan and the Hikone region, showcasing a rich collection of historical artifacts and art pieces related to the castle and its feudal past.

Yume Kyobashi Castle Road is a charming, historical street located near Hikone Castle in Shiga Prefecture. The road is lined with traditional Edo-period style buildings, offering visitors a step back in time while providing modern shops, restaurants, and cafes.

Genkyū-en is a traditional Japanese garden located near Hikone Castle in Shiga Prefecture. Built in the 17th century by the Ii family, the lords of Hikone, this garden is a perfect example of a stroll garden (kaiyū-shiki teien), a style designed for walking while enjoying scenic views of the landscape from different angles.
