What To Expect
Stop 1
⏱ 10 minDeparture from Shinjuku – Journey to Mt. Takao After 22 years guiding passengers along the JR Chuo Line as a train conductor, Samurai Guide Sho now leads you on a journey to Mt. Takao. This experience begins not when you reach the mountain, but already at Shinjuku Station. The complexity of the station, buying a Green Car ticket, and making transfers all begin to fall into the rhythm of the journey when you are guided by a former train conductor. Travel quietly and comfortably by Chuo Line Green Car, and enjoy the gradual shift from Tokyo’s cityscape to mountain scenery along the way.
Stop 2
⏱ 1h 30mHiking Route with a Waterfall Beginner-friendly, sneakers OK, no special gear required Follow a beginner-friendly hiking route where you can see a traditional training waterfall. No special hiking gear is required, and sneakers are fine. Enjoy a relaxed climb at a comfortable pace while taking in the calm mountain air. In case of rain, the route will be changed to a cable car.
Stop 3
⏱ 20 minReach the Summit Arrive at the summit of Mt. Takao after about a 1.5-hour hike. There is a special sense of reward that comes from reaching the top under your own power, and on clear days, you may even see Mt. Fuji. A view that feels far removed from central Tokyo awaits at the top.
Stop 4
⏱ 30 minVisit Yakuo-in Temple Visit Yakuo-in, a historic temple on Mt. Takao. Rather than simply seeing a sightseeing spot, this is time to place yourself within its atmosphere. Let’s spend a moment resetting the mind. After visiting the temple, we will descend by scenic chairlift. ※ During busy periods, the descent may be on foot and take about 30 to 40 minutes. ※ In case of rain, this will be changed to the cable car.
Stop 5
⏱ 1h 30mSpa / Sauna / Craft Beer To finish the day, we will stop by a tattoo-friendly spa and sauna. Towels are provided, so you can easily wash off the sweat and relax. Even if you do not bathe, you can enjoy food, drinks, and craft beer inside the facility. One of the highlights is being able to taste several craft beers brewed inside the facility, freshly poured from the tap. After climbing the mountain with your own feet, whether with the spa and sauna or with a single drink, you can end this day in a way that feels special to you.
Stop 6
⏱ 5 minReturn to Shinjuku Return comfortably to Shinjuku using Green Car (premium seating). With a relaxed ride after the spa, the day stays easy and unhurried until the very end. Enjoy the lingering feeling of the mountain as you make your way back to the city.
