It is also called "the Great Hell". Most of the spring water in Owakudani is poisonous. It was originally called Oojigoku, which was formed by the eruption of Mount Hakone 3,000 years ago. Hakone Shrine has been revered as the Great God of Hakone, the general guardian of Kanto, since ancient times. It is worshipped as a god of good fortune that is very effective in traffic safety, the fulfillment of wishes, and good luck and misfortune. There are many attractions such as the 800-year-old cedar tree-lined approach to the shrine and the prefectural-level special natural monument, the Himesara Pure Forest.
