In the center of the street is the “Nakamachi Suijo” where water flows, creating a pleasant, cool sound. Built in 1876 (Meiji 9), is a school building representing early Japanese quasi-Western architecture and is designated as a national treasure. Highlights include an arched entrance porch influenced by Western architecture, arabesque decorations, and beautiful designs on the plaster walls. Inside, classrooms and educational materials from the period are on display, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of education in the Meiji era. The design of the building, which blends Western-style architecture with Japanese techniques, attracts visitors as a symbol of Japan's modernization as well as the breath of the times.
