Mt.Sarakura is the central mountain of a natural park designated as Kitakyushu National Park. The 622-meter summit is accessible by Kyushu's longest cable car and a barrier-free slope car. The view from the top of the mountain is over 200 degrees, and it is the one and only place where you can see not only the entire city of Kitakyushu, but also the Kanmon Straits that separate Honshu and Kyushu. Admission to the summit observatory is free, and anyone can easily visit the summit. It is also a busy tourist destination with many various events held in accordance with the seasons. At the observatory, there is a heart-shaped objet d'art called "Lover's Sanctuary. It is said that locking a padlock to this objet d'art will bring about the fulfillment of love, making it a famous date spot.

It is the representative market of Kitakyushu City, and is visited by not only housewives and other general consumers, but also chefs from ryotei (Japanese-style restaurants) and other restaurants for purchases. The area was established as a place to unload fish from the adjacent Kamitake River, and is densely populated with wooden buildings constructed in the Taisho era. Kokura Castle was built by Tadaoki Hosokawa, who served Takauji Ashikaga, Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and Ieyasu Tokugawa, and became the first lord of the Kokura domain in Buzen Province for his military service in the Battle of Sekigahara in which he won 136 heads. CNN Travel's "19 Places to Visit in 2019" selected the area of Fukuoka Prefecture, including Kokura Castle, as the only place in Japan to visit in 2019. The observation space on the 5th floor offers a panoramic view of the city of Kokura. (A common ticket for the museum costs 1,800 yen.)

Mojiko Station was the first railroad station building to be designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1988. Mojiko Station and Tokyo Station are the only two railroad station buildings designated as National Important Cultural Properties. Visitors can see the neo-renaissance architectural style of the building as it was in 1914, when it flourished as the gateway to Kyushu's railroad system.

The Mojiko Retro District, which stretches around JR Mojiko Station, is lined with tasteful Western architecture that retains a strong trace of the good old days. Visitors can explore the streets of tasteful Western buildings such as the "Former Moji Branch of Osaka Merchant Marine" and the "Former Moji Mitsui Club," which were built using a unique technique on a wooden foundation. The town is also famous as a port town facing the sea, and visitors can enjoy "grilled curry" and "local beer" at various places in the town.
