From here, your special journey begins as you hike together with the monk along the sacred temple path toward Yakuoin. Opportunities to speak directly with a Buddhist monk are extremely rare, but with your guide assisting with translation, you can enjoy friendly conversations and gain a deeper insight into Japan’s spiritual culture. Walking the sacred approach together with a monk is a truly unique experience that can only be enjoyed on this tour.

After arriving at Yakuoin Temple, you will take part in the traditional Japanese Goma fire ritual, a sacred Buddhist ceremony that has been practiced for centuries. In this powerful spiritual setting, you will pray for your personal wishes and experience the deep atmosphere of this historic temple. Before the ceremony begins, your guide will explain the traditional customs and etiquette so you can fully appreciate this unique cultural experience. During the ritual, wooden prayer sticks made from purified cedar are offered into a sacred flame as prayers are delivered to the Buddha. The sound of powerful taiko drums and the echoing call of a conch shell fill the temple hall, creating a truly unforgettable and immersive moment of Japanese spiritual culture.

After the powerful Goma fire ritual, take a peaceful walk back through the forested temple grounds before boarding the cable car once again. The cable car will then bring you comfortably back down to Takaosanguchi Station.

From Takaosanguchi Station, a shuttle bus will take you to the renowned Japanese restaurant Ukai Toriyama. Set within a vast 6,000-tsubo garden (about 20,000 square meters), this beautiful property feels like stepping into a hidden traditional Japanese village. As you stroll through the peaceful garden, you will discover historic gassho-style houses that were carefully relocated from the mountain region of Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture.
