Stop 1

2h 30m

Explore the historic Higashiyama district, featuring the famous preserved streets of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. We will guide you to Kiyomizu-dera Temple to admire its magnificent architecture and iconic red gate from the outside. Guests are free to stroll through the temple's outer grounds which offer beautiful views. Note: Admission to the main wooden stage (inner hall) is optional and not included. You may purchase a ticket on-site if you wish to enter. After visiting the temple, enjoy free time to stroll through the historic Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka preserved districts. These sloping streets are lined with traditional tea houses, souvenir shops, and local snack stalls. It is the perfect place to rent a Kimono (optional, own expense) for photos or grab a traditional Japanese lunch.

Stop 2

1h 20m

Visit the head shrine of Inari, located at the base of a mountain. This spot is world-famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates ("Senbon Torii"), which straddle a network of trails behind the main buildings. It is arguably the most iconic photo spot in Kyoto. You will have time to hike part of the trail to capture the "tunnel of gates" effect and buy unique fox-shaped amulets.

Stop 3

1h 30m

Head to Nara, Japan's first permanent capital, to meet the city's most famous residents: over 1,000 wild sika deer that roam freely in the park. These deer are considered messengers of the gods and are generally friendly (especially if you buy some "shika senbei" or deer crackers to feed them!). Within the park, you can also choose to visit the majestic Todai-ji Temple (home to the Great Buddha) or Kasuga Taisha Shrine on your own (Admission fees are not included).
