Going up the sacred river, you go to the Okumiya, sanctuary from the bottom, then return via the Nakamiya then finish the tour with the Honden, main building. You will thus understand the role of water and rain deities in Shinto, very important for Japan, a country surrounded by the sea and whose rain is essential for rice cultivation.
