We begin our visit to the Shinto Kinpu Sanctuary, at the top of the mountain. This monument is part of the UNESCO World Heritage under the title "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains". This is an opportunity for us to greet the mountain and its guardian deity, before starting our journey and hike.

This sanctuary, also listed in UNESCO, dates from the 17th century and has remained as it is since that time. We can also see historical artifacts from the Edo period.

Ascetic Buddhist monks welcome us to this temple where we can still feel the presence of Kukai, Kobo-Daishi, founder of the place in the 9th century.
