In the late Edo period, it also became a gathering place for political activists and samurai. Your guide will explain the historical role of the Takase River and how the townscape evolved from the Edo period into modern Kyoto.

Sanjo Bridge is a historic bridge that served as one of the main gateways to Kyoto. During the Edo period, it marked the starting point of several major highways and was used by feudal lords traveling to and from Edo as part of the sankin-kōtai system.
