Sauna Mother: a womb-themed private sauna in Roppongi
Reservation-only Roppongi sauna for one to four people, with a 120-minute five-stage birth-themed experience, prices from ¥8,500 per room and a 15°C plunge.
Sauna Mother is a private, reservation-only sauna in Tokyo's Roppongi district, built around the concept of "120 minutes to stop being an adult". Operator WIQOMEDIAN scheduled the opening for 24 October 2026, and the venue's booking calendar lists sessions from opening day (SaunaNews). One group of one to four people takes over the whole room for a 120-minute session, and mixed-gender groups can book together (SaunaNews).
What the experience actually involves
The 120 minutes are arranged as a birth narrative in five stages: a womb sauna, a cold bath styled as a newborn's first bath, a shower that recreates being washed on a mother's lap, the Mother Sofa, and a closing scent described as a mother's skin (SAUNA MOTHER).
The womb sauna runs at 85°C and 40% humidity, with self-löyly so you can pour water on the stones yourself. Red lighting, heartbeat and muffled outside sound, and a scent intended to evoke a mother's skin carry the theme, and a curved bench lets you curl into a fetal position. A round window looks into the room, and you can have a "fetal photo" taken and printed on a rebirth certificate on the spot (PR Times). The cold bath that follows is set at 15°C and about 80 cm deep — deliberately deeper than usual so you feel slightly smaller — with translucent curtains standing in for a newborn's blurred vision and an oversized sculpted hand pouring water from the wall (PR Times).
The shower stage has no tub: warm water falls from the left, the right and above, so you sit rather than wash yourself (Gizmodo Japan). The finale is the Mother Sofa, a large contoured seat that supports you from head to legs and rocks at one of three selectable speeds, while projection mapping places one of four "mothers" above you: the Japanese goddess Izanami, an anime-style Two-Dimensional Mother, an Art Mother inspired by painters such as Renoir, Klimt and Modigliani, and a Mythology Mother drawing on figures such as Gaia and Isis (Gizmodo Japan).
Prices, drinks and rentals
Room prices cover the full 120 minutes for the whole room, not per person (PR Times):
Group size | Price per room, 120 minutes (2026) |
|---|---|
1 person | ¥8,500 |
2 people | ¥12,000 |
3 people | ¥15,000 |
4 people | ¥20,000 |
Drinks and rentals cost extra: Morinaga Mami and AMAMI sparkling water are ¥200 each (2026), and swimsuit or sauna hat rental is ¥500 each (2026). A bottle of water and an iced cup are included for each guest (SAUNA MOTHER).
At the exchange rate used in October 2026, SaunaNews put a solo session at about $54 and a four-person session at about $127, or roughly $32 per person when four share (SaunaNews). Treat the dollar figures as an indication only and check the live yen price on the official site before you book.
Getting there
The address is Keepers Roppongi B1F, 7-10-30 Roppongi, Minato City, Tokyo. It is about four minutes on foot from exit 7 at Roppongi Station on the Toei Oedo Line, about seven minutes from exit 4b on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, and about two minutes from The National Art Center, Tokyo (SAUNA MOTHER). Roppongi Station is served by the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, with connections to the Toei subway (Tokyo Metro).
Because a session runs a full 120 minutes before you add arrival and changing time, treat it as a half-day block rather than a quick stop.
Practical notes before you book
The venue describes itself as a place to experience the feeling of security rather than a medical facility, and it does not claim any medical or psychological effect from the design (PR Times). Opening hours are not published on the official site, so confirm them when you reserve.
The space is enclosed, dimly lit and heavily themed; if you are claustrophobic or sensitive to intense sensory design, weigh that up before booking (SoraNews24). The 15°C plunge is a genuine cold exposure rather than a cool-down rinse, so if you have a cardiovascular condition or are pregnant, speak to a doctor first, as you would for any sauna or cold plunge.
Is it worth planning a trip around?
Sauna Mother is a themed private sauna, not an onsen or sento. A solo 120-minute session is ¥8,500 (2026), while four people sharing pay ¥20,000 (2026) — ¥5,000 each (PR Times). The appeal depends on whether the womb-recreation concept interests you; if you want a conventional Japanese bathing experience, you can pair a session here with a standard sento elsewhere in the city on the same trip.
