Comiket Guide 2026: Tokyo's Massive Manga Convention

Comiket is the world's largest self-published manga convention, held twice yearly in Tokyo. Here's how to attend, what to buy, and how to survive the crowds.

Comiket — the Tokyo Comic Market — is the world's largest gathering of manga and doujinshi creators and fans, drawing over 700,000 attendees across three days twice a year at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. Unlike commercial anime conventions, Comiket is a creator-driven event where tens of thousands of amateur and semi-professional artists sell self-published works (doujinshi) directly to buyers. For any serious anime fan visiting Japan, the Comiket guide below is essential reading before attending.

When and Where

Comiket runs twice yearly: Summer Comiket (C102/C103 etc.) in mid-August over three days, and Winter Comiket in late December over three days. Both are held at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba, accessible by Yurikamome Line from Shimbashi or Rinkai Line from Osaki. Summer 2026 is scheduled for August 13-15. Winter 2026 runs December 28-30. Check the official Comic Market Committee website (comiket.co.jp) for confirmed dates.

Tickets and Entry

Entry to Comiket now requires advance ticket purchase — the free-entry system was abolished after 2020. Day tickets cost 2,000-2,500 yen and are sold via Lawson ticket outlets and online. All-day badges for corporate exhibitors cost more. Tickets usually go on sale 2-3 months before the event and sell out quickly for peak days (Day 3 has the most corporate booths and cosplay activity). International visitors should book via third-party Japan ticketing services.

What to Do at Comiket

  • Browse and buy doujinshi directly from indie manga artists
  • Visit corporate booths (Day 3) for exclusive goods from major anime studios
  • Photograph elaborate cosplay in the outdoor cosplay area (Big Sight East parking lot)
  • Collect comiket exclusive goods not sold anywhere else
  • Browse Circle maps (catalog sold for 2,000 yen) to find specific artists
  • Pick up original fan art prints, art books, music CDs, and fan games
  • Experience the overwhelming scale and energy of 200,000+ daily attendees

Survival Tips

Summer Comiket is held during Tokyo's most brutal heat, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C inside the exhibition halls. Bring two or three bottles of water, a hand fan, and cool packs (sold at convenience stores). Wear lightweight clothing. Arrive early — the queue outside Big Sight begins forming before 5 AM for the most popular booths, and doors open at 10 AM.

Budget cash carefully: most doujinshi cost 500-1,500 yen each, but it is extremely easy to spend 10,000-30,000 yen in a single day. Bring a large tote bag or backpack. The event catalog (sold at Comiket booths and in advance at Animate and Toranoana) is essential for navigating the 30,000+ selling circles across dozens of hall sections. Download the Comisearch app for a digital circle finder.
