Kusu Table Mountain Day - Mt. Hane Hike + Mt. Kirikabu by Car

Mt. Hane (Haneyama) is one of Kusu’s most distinctive “table mountains,” with a broad lava plateau stretching about 3 km across the summit. The hike is rewarding yet approachable, leading you through open grasslands and seasonal wildflowers—especially the famous Miyama Kirishima azaleas—before opening up to wide, cinematic views over Kyushu. On clear days, you may even see iconic peaks like Mt. Yufu, the Kuju range, and Mt. Aso from the top.

Mt. Kirikabu (Kirikabusan) is a rare “table mountain” with a flat summit that feels like a natural sky park above the Kusu Basin. At the top, take a relaxing break at KIRIKABU HOUSE, a simple viewpoint rest spot where you can soak in wide-open, rural Kyushu panoramas. To round out the stop, we’ll enjoy a bento-style lunch at KIRIKABU HOUSE, and we’ll boil water to serve coffee or tea—an easy, comforting moment with big views. The summit is also a well-known launch area for air sports—on a good-weather day, guests who wish can add a paragliding experience for an unforgettable bird’s-eye view. Advance reservations for the flights are required. Participants must be at least 140 centimeters tall and weigh at least 35 kilograms. They must also be in good health and have no conditions that could interfere with the flight. Flights will be canceled in case of bad weather.
