Hakone Old Tokaido Road Hiking Tour to Hakone Shrine
This private hiking tour combines nature, Japanese history, and traditional culture - all in one experience. Starting from Hakone-Yumoto Station, travel by local bus to the historic Old Tokaido Road and hike through the forest to Hatajuku, famous for Yosegi marquetry, Hakone's traditional woodcraft.
What To Expect
Stop 1
⏱ 2hAfter taking 15 minute bus ride from Hakone-Yumoto Station (Meeting point) to the trailhead, hike the stone paved road for about 40 minutes to Hatajuku, a village famous for Yosegi Zaiku, Hakone's traditional marquetry craft. Visit a craft shop and/or Hatajuku Yosegi Kaikan to see the traditinal craft of Japan.
Stop 2
⏱ 2hTake a short bus ride from Hatajuku to Amasake Chaya teahouse where you can enjoy amasake (sweet rice drink) and race cakes as travellers did in the Edo period. After refreshment at the teahouse, hike the Old Tokaido trail to Lake Ashi for an hour. Enjoy the view of Lake Ashi and Mt.Fuji if weather permits.
Stop 3
⏱ 2hWalk along Lake Ashi for 10 minutes to the Hakone Shrine surrounded by trees. Also visit the iconic lakeside torii gate.
